Your summer book recommendations!

Summer is a great time to pick up a new book and fan your faith into a flame.  Here are some recommendations of KTIS listeners.  Feel free to add your own in the comments section below and also recieve a suggestion from the ones already listed.

Jane:   Heard you asking about book recommendations. I recommend “A Mary Heart in a Martha World” by Joanna Weaver. I read it last summer and it changed my outlook on things.

Tonya:   The best bible study/Women’s group I ever attended was A Woman after God’s own Heart. It is written by Elizabeth (I don’t remember her last name). I think you can get it through the KTIS store. I did the study years ago, but it made such an impact I have not forgotten it. It came with a workbook so a bible study would be easy to do with the book. Hope this helps!! God Bless you!!

Karen:  The book Captivating by Stacy Eldrige has a `Study’ companion journal to go along with it that is great for individuals or as a group study.

Kelly:  I just heard a lady recommend Captivating as a read for this summer. I had to send a message and say “I second that”! That book is completely life changing. Since reading that book, I have said that if every woman could read that book, it would change our world…and personally, i recommend it to husbands and dads too…it changes the way I look at my husband, the way I am a wife, and most importantly the way we are parenting our daughter. Just one thing…READ THE WHOLE BOOK…John and Staci take you through a healing process toward the end that is so important! Anyway, I was so excited when I heard her recommend that book! Have a great day!

Tonya:  I found another book. I gave it to my daughter after I read it. It is The Awesome Power and Privilege of a Woman’s Voice it is by Lois Greene. I love how she brought to life the prominant women of the bible and showed how their words, or lack of words, shaped the events and even men of the bible. Really goes to show you, women do have a power. It is a quick read, but well worth it. You can find it on timgreeneministries.com. Hearing her speak at the District 5 Winter Camp in Eau Clair, WI in Jan was so life changing.

Tim:  Lisa, I was the one who called you about the bike club. Please check out our website (www.TwinCitiesSpoke.com)and join us for a ride sometime. My faith walk has changed and been strengthened by riding with the club — just giving over to Him another part of me has been one of the greatest things I have done to come closer to Him. I could go on and on, but please check our site and contact me if you have any question.

Barb:  I decided I needed to share a wonderful series to read. I know it is a “Romance” series but it has an excellent message as well AND for those of us that knit there are patterns in each of the books. Debbie Macomber has a series “on Blossom Street” (taking place in Seatle) that is a LOT of fun to read. The book “Back On Blossom Street” is about prayer shawls WITH two prayer shawl patterns.

A great book I just finished is “The Traveler’s Gift,” by Andy Andrews. I is about perspective as we face trials in our lives. Great historical fiction!

Many 9-12 year olds in my community are raving about “Reef Warrior: Journey to Discovery” by Cheri Andrews.

Published by a christian publishing house, this would seemingly be the answer to every parents wish for a possitive alternative to “Harry Potter” that still seems to meet their child’s desire to read fantasy fiction.

My daughter (age 14) and several of her friends loved it!
I loved the Christian values and characteristics tucked into the book as well as the possitive messages of how to deal with life issues.

Although the book doesn’t hit the stores until July 14th, books can already be purchsed off the book’s website: http://www.reefwarrior.com. There’s also a portion of chapter one posted on the site.

Chronicles of Narnia! It’s a great book/series for dad to read a chapter or two of each night. I’m 12, and I’ve read the whole series, and I love them. Narnia Rocks!

I have read ‘Captivating’ and it’s partner book for men ‘Wild at Heart’ by John and Staci Elderidge. I highly reccommend both of these books for anybody. The message they bring is fresh, different, and incredible. It’s full of truth and will change the way you relate to others and the way you think about your own self. God has clearly blessed this couple with discernment and revealed great things to them!
